Detail
Each of us has walked our own path.
And now, here, we look into each other’s eyes.

In recent years, Japanese photography has garnered significant international attention. However, until now, the photographers introduced as representatives of this field have tended to be predominantly male. Against this backdrop, in the summer of 2024, the book *I’m So Happy You Are Here*—which shines a light on female photographers who have played a vital role in the world of photography from the 1950s to the present—was published in both English and French. The exhibition of the same name, held to coincide with the book’s release, began at the Arles International Photography Festival in France and has since continued its global tour. Both the book and the exhibition have been highly acclaimed as groundbreaking events that trace the history of Japanese photographic expression from a new perspective and reexamine its legacy. This exhibition, marking the return of the exhibition to Japan, features an expanded lineup of artists and content, introducing 30 female photographers. Transcending the framework of “photography,” it brings together approximately 200 works created through diverse approaches, including installations, collages, and video. Don’t miss this exhibition, in which Bunkamura The Museum—set to relocate to a larger venue in a few years—poses questions through “photography” against the backdrop of Shibuya, a city teeming with diverse personalities.
