Detail

Exploring new possibilities of happiness for people in a parallel world

This bold new play by Yuya Nishida and Gekidan Furosya is inspired by the conspiracy theories rife in our increasingly divided times. Seeing the conspiracy theory as a mechanism for people to understand the world by connecting the dots of various phenomena and finding meaningful lines between them in the form of a narrative, Dark Comedy is a portrait of people living in the different narratives of a parallel world.

Set in the fictional town of Gokumachi, the play explores what happiness means to the inhabitants of a different world, told through the intersecting stories of long-lost twins, the rise and fall of a local sports team, and the conflict surrounding a mayoral election. Carrying forward the essence of Gekidan Furosya’s Collective Violence Series, which deal with such themes as conventions, power, possession, and attachment, the ironic and poignant Dark Comedy shines light on our uncertain and dark age.

Don’t miss the chance to catch the latest play from the multi-award-winning and ever-evolving Gekidan Furosya.
