Detail
Experience the mindful serenity of a traditional Japanese ceremony and enjoy matcha green tea with sweets in this experience in central Fukuoka.

Experience Details
The traditional art of tea ceremony might have originated in China, but it has evolved into one of Japan's most refined expressions of hospitality and an essential part of the country's tea culture. In this experience in central Fukuoka, you will delve into the intricacies of a traditional tea ceremony using chairs and tables for optimal comfort.

The meeting point will be Ohori Park in central Fukuoka — a verdant oasis next to the Fukuoka Art Museum in central Fukuoka. From there, your host will walk you to the tea room venue. An experienced tea master specializing in urasenke, one of the biggest schools of tea ceremony originating in the principles set forth by three Senke families, which have become Japan's main tea ceremony tradition, will lead the ceremony.

Immerse yourself in the rich aroma of matcha green tea as your host demonstrates their mastery and attention to detail in this serene tea ceremony. While many tea ceremonies are conducted on the floor, this unique tea ceremony (ryurei) uses tables and chairs for your comfort. Your master will serve you a bowl of matcha to savor with a fresh traditional Japanese sweet (wagashi), and you will have the opportunity to learn how to whisk matcha under the expert guidance of the tea master. Then, you’ll enjoy the tea you prepared with a dried wagashi sweet. Enjoy learning about Japanese tea culture through this hands-on experience.
