Head temple: Myokakuji Temple
It was founded in Shijo Omiya in 4 during the Muromachi period.
During the Sengoku period, it had a large site similar to that of Myoken-ji Temple, and its vast building is depicted in the National Treasure "Rakuchu Rakugaizu byobu."

Up until the time of Nobunaga, it was the residence of many people, including the 13th shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiteru, Oda Nobunaga, and Date Masamune, and tea ceremonies were held here by Sen no Rikyu. Even today, there are many things to see, such as the Obon Gosho, a nationally designated important cultural property, the Kahodo Hall (*a Kyoto Prefecture designated tangible cultural property) with its door paintings by the Kano school, and three gardens with different styles.
