In 1925, when the Shimbashi Enbujo was built, its inaugural performance marked the first edition of “Azuma Odori.” Now, 100 years later, Azuma Odori is celebrating its 100th performance. Although Tokyo’s history—beginning with Edo—is relatively short, it is now home to many people. Tokyo, a city that gathers people from all over Japan, is a fitting venue for an event that represents the nation. From the north to the south of Japan, there are geisha-districts, each with its own unique character. For this 100th commemorative performance, in addition to Shinbashi, geisha from 19 districts across Japan will be invited on a daily rotation.

*Shinbashi is scheduled to appear on all dates during the performance period.
