An unprecedented exhibition that asks the question, "What is a giant robot?"
This exhibition traces the history of giant robot design in Japanese animation and its visual expression.
Animation featuring fictional robots (robot animation) is now a part of Japanese popular culture. Fictional "life-size" robots, such as the "Moving Gundam" in Yokohama (which will be closed to the public at the end of March 2024), are present in major Japanese cities and have become a part of the everyday landscape.
In this exhibition, we will examine the history of robot design and visual expression in robot animation from "Tetsujin 28-go" to recent years, focusing on the "mechanism" and "size" in the settings that played an important role in the formation of their "reality. Based on this, we would like to think about "what is a giant robot" together with the audience. - Website
